Saree Story

I am Damini. I don't do soft entrances, I arrive the way lightning does, sudden and impossible to ignore. My black stays composed for exactly as long as it wants to, then a gold paisley strikes across it, then another, scattered like I couldn't be bothered to warn anyone first. My border is where I stop holding back completely, paisleys stacked dense and defiant in gold, refusing to apologise for taking up that much space. I was never built to disappear into a room, I was built to be the reason the room remembers the night.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

Damini is a pure silk Banarasi in deep black, her body scattered with bold gold paisley-leaf butis set at wide, deliberate intervals. Her border runs dense and commanding, a row of large gold paisleys layered with floral detailing, framed above by a fine leaf trim and below by a scalloped wave pattern. A slim wine-purple line runs along the inner edge, a quiet accent against the saree's otherwise unflinching black and gold.

Weaver

Although Naushad ji maintains a limited public profile, he represents the kind of weaving family that forms the backbone of the Mubarakpur cluster. Deep technical knowledge, family-run looms, and generations of experience in Banarasi weaving.

Fabric

Woven in pure silk with a smooth, structured hand-feel and a deep matte sheen that lets the gold zari catch light without competing with it. It holds its shape with quiet authority while still falling into soft, fluid folds when draped.

Technique

The paisley butis are built using the kadhua technique, each motif woven individually and directly into the silk using the extra weft method, giving it a raised, textured finish with no thread floating loose at the back, unlike a flat printed or embroidered look. The border carries the same kadhua discipline in its dense paisley and floral work, a hallmark of fine Banarasi handloom craftsmanship.

Saree with Blouse Piece

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
