Saree Story

Call me Amara, and yes, I am blushing, I always am. My red is the colour of a bride catching someone's eye across a crowded room and pretending she did not notice. My body stays shy, just a few gold butis scattered like she is still deciding how much to give away. But my border knows exactly what it wants, paisleys dense with purple, green and yellow, all the things a new bride feels but will not yet say out loud. Born out of kadhua weaving, I promise to never sit flat or fade thin. Always attentive, alive, unmistakable. Every time I come out of the family trunk I feel that same flutter, across generations it just remains the same.

Handloom Perfection

Handloom sarees are made by human hands, not machines. Which means every piece carries the natural variations of the loom and the weaver, proof that someone, somewhere, made this just for you.

Description

Amara is a pure katan silk Benarasi in deep bridal red from the Virasat collection, her body kept clean but for a scatter of gold paisley butis. The border grows dense and elaborate, gold paisleys detailed with touches of purple, green and yellow set against a fine trellis canvas, framed above and below by a floral vine trim. The same rich border treatment carries into the pallu, giving the saree the bold, ceremonial weight that heirloom pieces are meant to hold.

Weaver

National Award-winning master weaver Nurul Ji turns colour silk threads into poetry. Thread by thread, his Tanchoi Butidaar sarees bloom with hundreds of delicate motifs woven directly into the silk, each one a testament to extraordinary heritage kept alive through his hands.

Fabric

Woven in pure katan silk, this saree has a firm, structured body with a smooth natural sheen. It holds the raised kadhua work crisply while still falling in soft, fluid pleats when draped, and its sturdiness is part of why it lasts through generations of wear.

Technique

This is a kadhua weave, where each motif is built individually into the fabric using the extra weft technique, giving the paisleys their raised, textured quality rather than a flat printed look. This saree comes from the loom of Nurul Ji, whose command over kadhua work shows in how solidly each paisley holds its shape and colour across the dense border and pallu, built to be worn and handed down without losing its character.

Saree with Blouse Piece

Full length saree with unstitched blouse piece, approx. 0.8 metre

Care Instructions

Silk rewards patience. Dry clean for the first wash. After that, cold water and a gentle hand. Never wring it, never rush it. Dry in the shade — silk and sunlight are not friends. Iron on the reverse, low heat, while it is still slightly damp.
